Lit Letter Flashcards use an embedded pictograph mnemonic strategy that connects background knowledge of the visual on the cards to the letter and letter sounds. Each visual naturally fits in the shape of the letter instead of squeezed in or placed to the side. Take away the visual by flipping the card around and they will remember the letter and sound!

Most alphabet products are uppercase, but what’s the majority of the letters you are reading now? Lowercase! The purpose of Lit Letters is not to teach the name of letters but the sound that goes with the letter to get your child reading CVC words quick. (Instead teach uppercase which is much more easy to learn through handwriting – another essential skill for reading.)

There are key components that are hidden to parents eyes but are essential for early reading. For example, you will not find “u for unicorn,” “i for ice cream,” “g for giraffe,” or “x for xylophone.” Lit Letters start with the most common letter sound (short sound for vowels) for the purpose of reading right away.
